More than 600 livestock vaccinated on the first day of vaccination campaign.

Over 600 livestock were vaccinated during the launch of a livestock treatment and vaccination campaign in the northern part of Abyei on 25 July. The event, which was held in Goli, is an initiative of the UN joint programme for strengthening inclusive social cohesion and economic resilience in Abyei. A total of 160,000 livestock are targeted for vaccination under the programme.

According to Dr. Wono Luke of FAO, is being implemented in response to calls made by traditional leaders during pre-smigration conferences. He added that the calls by the leaders are for ramped up livestock vaccination in the North and Southern part of Abyei.

Some thirty community animal workers, who were trained under the programme, will continue the livestock vaccination campaign even after the project's end. The community workers are expected to extend the campaign to areas out of Abyei where animals have already migrated due to the end the migration season.
