KINSHASA, September 7, 2017 - Following the discovery of several fraudulent documents, the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) recalls that the United Nations in DRC are under no circumstance involved in the certification process for the export or import of minerals. Some minerals traffickers have indeed produced certificates purportedly issued by MONUSCO in order to be able to export gold from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. These certificates bear the names of persons who do not work at MONUSCO, grossly counterfeit signatures and seals not used by the Mission. This is not the first time that fraudulent elements have used the name of MONUSCO or the name of other United Nations entities present in DRC to falsify documents. The mission wishes to recall that it has no mandate nor capacity to issue such documents. Any export or import authorization for minerals signed by MONUSCO is therefore a forgery.
