On 20 August, MINURSO celebrated the State Foundation Day of Hungary by raising their national flag at the Mission HQ in Laayoune.
Ceremonies and festivities are held nationwide to celebrate the event including flag hoisting, air and water parades, folk arts and street music.
In 1995, Hungary deployed its first uniformed contingent to UNFICYP in Cyprus and, since then, it has been deploying military and police personnel to the UN peace operations. As of 30 April 2023, 36 women and men from Hungary serve in the UN field operations, including seven in MINURSO.
The colors of the national flag represent the strength (red), the hope (green), and the national pride and allegiance (white).
