On 04 October 2023, SRSG and Head of MINURSO Alexander Ivanko, alongside the Force Commander Major General Md Fakhrul Ahsan , the Chief of Mission Support Veneranda Mukandoli-Jefferson, the Mission Chief of Staff, Nick Birnback, as well as MINURSO military and civilian personnel attended a ceremony awarding the United Nations Medal to MINURSO Military Observers (UNMOs). The commemoration pays tribute to the service of the UNMOs in the challenging circumstances MINURSO now faces.
