UN peacekeeping policy, guidance and learning represents a body of knowledge that supports peacekeeping personnel in the implementation of their tasks. It provides direction and helps streamline work processes. All policies, guidance and learning materials are based on good practices and lessons from field operations and are regularly reviewed.
Over the years, the Secretariat has consistently improved the process and outcomes of the peacekeeping guidance system. This includes regular training and induction on the importance of guidance and institutional learning; a revised and simplified guidance taxonomy; easier navigation of internal and external digital platforms where guidance is stored; support to offices developing guidance materials; and regular collection of end-user feedback. The Secretariat continuously develops new guidance in response to emerging challenges and priorities. Efforts continue to be made to increase the uptake of guidance materials through sensitization, training and in-mission support.
