Bringing Drone Technology to Iraqi Police

"In 2021, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Salman Pak Training Center received 20 drones from UNMAS Iraq. These drones were distributed to relevant departments across the Iraqi governorates in order to ensure the best use of this technology during operations. UNMAS Iraq has provided training courses at Salman Pak Training Center since 2019 to ensure that the necessary knowledge accompanies the equipment", declared by Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Falah, the Head of Training Courses in Salman Pak.
UNMAS Iraq has been at the forefront of introducing drone technology to Iraqi police. Drones are capable of navigating and exploring areas that are typically inaccessible to robots or human operators, such as narrow spaces, mine-contaminated areas, muddy areas, pools of water, and rooftops of buildings. By surveying sites and detecting unknown objects, drones play a crucial role in assisting users in drawing safe paths for movement.
The integration of drone technology plays a vital role in protecting communities from mines and explosive remnants of war (ERW). The ability to safely and efficiently survey areas minimizes risk to both operators and civilians.
Commissioner Akram Hussein, from the Explosives Control Department of Najaf Governorate, shared his experience with drone technology and the training provided by UNMAS Iraq: "Before the training course, I had no prior knowledge of drones. However, after completing the training, I acquired the skills to operate the drone, which we now use for reconnaissance when suspicious objects or activities are reported. The drones provided by UNMAS Iraq have greatly enhanced our work at the Explosives Control Directorate."
The training provided by UNMAS Iraq has significantly strengthened the capabilities of the Iraqi MoI Explosives Control Directorates nationwide. The introduction of drone technology has not only improved the efficiency and safety of explosive device detection and management but has also contributed to broader public safety and security measures. This underscores the transformative impact of innovative technology in the field of explosive ordnance disposal and community protection.

"في عام 2021، تلقى مركز تدريب مكافحة المتفجرات التابع لوزارة الداخلية في سلمان باك 20 طائرة مسيرة من دائرة الأمم المتحدة للأعمال المتعلقة بالألغام (UNMAS) في العراق. وقد تم توزيع هذه الطائرات المسيرة على للجهات ذات الصلة في جميع المحافظات العراقية من أجل ضمان أفضل استخدام لهذه التكنولوجيا أثناء العمليات. وقد قدمت UNMAS دورات تدريبية في مركز سلمان باك للتدريب منذ عام 2019 لضمان أن المعرفة اللازمة تصاحب المعدات" - المقدم أحمد فلاح، مدير الدورات التدريبية في مركز تدريب سلمان باك.
كانت UNMAS في طليعة تقديم تكنولوجيا الطائرات المسيرة الى الشرطة العراقية. تتمتع الطائرات المسيرة بالقدرة على التنقل واستكشاف المناطق التي يصعب على الروبوتات أو المعالجين البشريين الوصول إليها عادةً، مثل المساحات الضيقة والمناطق الملوثة بالألغام والمناطق الموحلة وبرك المياه وأسطح المباني. من خلال مسح المواقع واستكشاف الأجسام المجهولة، تلعب الطائرات المسيرة دوراً حاسماً في مساعدة المعالجين في رسم وتخطيط مسارات آمنة للحركة.
يلعب دمج تكنولوجيا الطائرات المسيرة دوراً حيوياً في حماية المجتمعات من الألغام ومخلفات الحرب المتفجرة. إن القدرة على مسح المناطق بأمان وكفاءة تقلل من المخاطر التي يتعرض لها كل من المعالجين والمدنيين.
شارك المفوض أكرم حسين، من مديرية مكافحة المتفجرات في محافظة النجف، تجربته مع تكنولوجيا الطائرات المسيرة والتدريب الذي قدمته UNMAS وقال: "قبل دورة التدريب، لم يكن لدي أي معرفة مسبقة بالطائرات المسيرة. ومع ذلك، بعد إكمال التدريب، اكتسبت المهارات اللازمة لتشغيل الطائرة المسيرة، والتي نستخدمها الآن للاستطلاع عند الإبلاغ عن أجسام أو أنشطة مشبوهة. لقد عززت الطائرات المسيرة التي قدمتها UNMAS عملنا في مديرية مكافحة المتفجرات بشكل كبير".
لقد دعم التدريب الذي قدمته UNMAS بشكل كبير قدرات مديريات مكافحة المتفجرات التابعة لوزارة الداخلية العراقية على مستوى العراق. إدخال تكنولوجيا الطائرات المسيرة عمل على تحسين كفاءة وسلامة استكشاف وإدارة العبوات الناسفة المبتكرة وساهم أيضاً في إجراءات السلامة والأمن العامة الأوسع نطاقاً. وهذا يؤكد على التأثير التحويلي للتكنولوجيا المبتكرة في مجال التخلص من الذخائر المتفجرة وحماية المجتمع.
